The map and campaign rules are almost complete and the first part of selected readings have been added. The link on the Campaign Page is now live so you can go directly there to find this scenario if you lose the link.</p>Sugarbowl92http://www.blogger.com/profile/05481150245103963310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7575734698934523608.post-45910570444686497132023-08-12T18:21:00.005-05:002023-08-12T18:21:35.495-05:00More Ancient Germans<p> Working on an idea for a 1st century AD campaign scenario pitting Early Germans vs Principate Romans. Campaign rules will be very similar to all of the others I use, especially From the Forest Deep. I will post them to the Campaign page once I get them somewhat close to finished and a map that I like. In the meantime, I managed to flow some heavy German foot that have been hanging around along with a camp for FOG 300 (and ADLG if I have to play) plus two temperate templates that I can use as forest, fields or whatever I need. See the comments in the captions for details about the figures.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMrw90LyOfq4Xq7USFTnoFkTNB59HiwEDoJflfbQ7zhWpIPtFLTdINLPDB147tWEJS8p71uxT0PNdlpHySYjoil-Dmy4mjblxBUxI1449Zsn81pzjBGTDU-vXaxpuWjPcLWjsvGRGNHCiorMUOOwcdTtlzfc-5YAShyu2WkB1yNMszYUgxQW-vbYw8f2dy/s3638/D9FAB452-D213-42C6-A029-67DC34ED70A0_1_201_a.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2255" data-original-width="3638" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMrw90LyOfq4Xq7USFTnoFkTNB59HiwEDoJflfbQ7zhWpIPtFLTdINLPDB147tWEJS8p71uxT0PNdlpHySYjoil-Dmy4mjblxBUxI1449Zsn81pzjBGTDU-vXaxpuWjPcLWjsvGRGNHCiorMUOOwcdTtlzfc-5YAShyu2WkB1yNMszYUgxQW-vbYw8f2dy/s320/D9FAB452-D213-42C6-A029-67DC34ED70A0_1_201_a.heic" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here is a picture of the whole group.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJFKIIrY553tlZkWxe31piGD7jA2VyVVoJaTjahV9SOT-c2JgKWMdWqjC-z6Xa8VLgqJy6DJKPGJL6Y1E9-ifRJDnRGeV6zKGT0oPCWgf8R72Ifz0L1ivl3LUpv8K70ISc3ALib9WkGtBLOcwrCcMbuS_EZdKJUwcaIkIBoBNRYjnrGN141getFB3eedlG/s3161/9E6F3645-7417-4997-9808-1E24C8ABF52B_1_201_a.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2482" data-original-width="3161" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJFKIIrY553tlZkWxe31piGD7jA2VyVVoJaTjahV9SOT-c2JgKWMdWqjC-z6Xa8VLgqJy6DJKPGJL6Y1E9-ifRJDnRGeV6zKGT0oPCWgf8R72Ifz0L1ivl3LUpv8K70ISc3ALib9WkGtBLOcwrCcMbuS_EZdKJUwcaIkIBoBNRYjnrGN141getFB3eedlG/s320/9E6F3645-7417-4997-9808-1E24C8ABF52B_1_201_a.heic" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Closer pic of the circular template. At one point, there was a hardcopy on Amazon for approximately $150.</p><p>One random day in June 2023, I stumbled on a copy of the draft of the manuscript submitted in 1969 for Dr. Zakkar's PHD. The pdf is available through the SOAS eprint website. The link for the full 298 page thesis is available <a href="https://eprints.soas.ac.uk/29516/1/10731672.pdf" target="_blank">here</a>. There are an additional 16 pages that appear to be short biographies of other Islamic writers from antiquity. These pages are obviously not part of the original thesis judging by the print quality and font.</p>Sugarbowl92http://www.blogger.com/profile/05481150245103963310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7575734698934523608.post-59257616948537099992022-12-22T07:06:00.005-06:002022-12-22T07:06:59.147-06:00FOG 3.1 Book 3 Now available<p> FOG Army Book 3 is now up and available. The wording on when death rolls are taken in the Battle Group Deterioration section goes back to V1/V2 days and is as such in the Full Turn Sequence in Appendix 9 under the Shooting Phase but under the Melee Phase it is the V3 wording (with death rolls before cohesion tests). I asked for clarification on the forum and once it is ironed out, I will upload the FTS and Deployment page as a single file.</p><p><br /></p><p>I am still working on the formatting of Army Book 1. It has been made a free download with the main rules and Army List Book 1 available. I have not had time to fully digest the changes but several new lists have been added to Book 1 (Early Highland Raiders, Neo-Babylonian to name a few) and at least one new troop type (Light Camelry) has been added. I hope to add more info in the coming weeks to include links. Stay Tuned.</p>Sugarbowl92http://www.blogger.com/profile/05481150245103963310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7575734698934523608.post-78199406248914106942022-09-03T11:27:00.005-05:002022-09-03T11:27:27.294-05:00Reinforcements for the Classical Indians<p> Had a bit of inspiration to paint lately and finished up 4 stands of Indian Clubmen. The figures are Khurasan 15s and look a bit cartoonish to me but I think they paint up nicely. Although, the top of their turban reminds me of Dr. Seuss. Anyway they will be part of a random event in one of my Classical Indian campaigns under development.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIf9UFeTFO_L0TKH0_4n0N7GUifRebOljoOwHlIVhc2wZ6yDFgj-cDu3nYdeGRjed-e2c1e-FdNZEdGeJkNKh3rkRhaLrnoVl9qtG-sSQpUxphdeVYYhY80r8XQ5QteB6aW5UbwkvJu-cy8PX3FL_NrqZCqqp3HqrL5dMq5uQOEu_9xGwGUDkGvzDk2Q/s2513/FF1BB68C-228A-4A00-9D37-71D5C6C66703_1_201_a.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1448" data-original-width="2513" height="230" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIf9UFeTFO_L0TKH0_4n0N7GUifRebOljoOwHlIVhc2wZ6yDFgj-cDu3nYdeGRjed-e2c1e-FdNZEdGeJkNKh3rkRhaLrnoVl9qtG-sSQpUxphdeVYYhY80r8XQ5QteB6aW5UbwkvJu-cy8PX3FL_NrqZCqqp3HqrL5dMq5uQOEu_9xGwGUDkGvzDk2Q/w400-h230/FF1BB68C-228A-4A00-9D37-71D5C6C66703_1_201_a.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4-JSn6bW1jG71wGQhYqdoNG7faTu3mE4RVjbDEhIwHHPe-h3V8hyINn7gLkT-GfBCFCmPa7BTrLzarU5mLEciaW-4qfT3FwrPsdZnlOlGKtf6MKgede2KQDYL1lEQQ0FwNmxtZblm_e_a_QAKzyYDo8_SctCjOxNyTHR8lJvrQP_0Hkl3xT9O0FUmSA/s2132/A9EEA94B-2F78-4750-87DE-078A95223018_1_201_a.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2066" data-original-width="2132" height="388" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4-JSn6bW1jG71wGQhYqdoNG7faTu3mE4RVjbDEhIwHHPe-h3V8hyINn7gLkT-GfBCFCmPa7BTrLzarU5mLEciaW-4qfT3FwrPsdZnlOlGKtf6MKgede2KQDYL1lEQQ0FwNmxtZblm_e_a_QAKzyYDo8_SctCjOxNyTHR8lJvrQP_0Hkl3xT9O0FUmSA/w400-h388/A9EEA94B-2F78-4750-87DE-078A95223018_1_201_a.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEcIAB31ntY39NKQYcWSfxEdJFIedtxRa_2l7HnEadcXJ3vWo6biNKpvm3XogkOdY5FQx8Kisf-W5z8NAdBfJPlb1EfQEh1NhqkNZWKV_WoThrQFy_6_OUNr71sHA3DEUnZmQjxUgawftl7FAJHPO9n3lKeO6HJi_qnqF8O9RLrtCCVDMpo7psHdSfhQ/s2133/A04C82E8-9510-4724-9D87-8A0CB8223403_1_201_a.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2102" data-original-width="2133" height="394" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEcIAB31ntY39NKQYcWSfxEdJFIedtxRa_2l7HnEadcXJ3vWo6biNKpvm3XogkOdY5FQx8Kisf-W5z8NAdBfJPlb1EfQEh1NhqkNZWKV_WoThrQFy_6_OUNr71sHA3DEUnZmQjxUgawftl7FAJHPO9n3lKeO6HJi_qnqF8O9RLrtCCVDMpo7psHdSfhQ/w400-h394/A04C82E8-9510-4724-9D87-8A0CB8223403_1_201_a.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIWvzqi4KdDpyMZSfWVZFAqFcI1Jd7FyyuxgaJgWuR4BiYvg0s0Gd_2YEvqAQLtr14M9E6fnGaXBXwDrm9wfgsJ5H_WPh8ax3RU5uUl58XpGeFZGj36mqWZ8okVMdCR7Gia0Wpq2Y4uRnM9SG4A53dSxqPix6JZ7-Ka3tiCF3XIpCSjB1klujn3plEOQ/s1558/093D607F-DD98-4658-B27F-A8597AF5E67A_1_201_a.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1465" data-original-width="1558" height="376" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIWvzqi4KdDpyMZSfWVZFAqFcI1Jd7FyyuxgaJgWuR4BiYvg0s0Gd_2YEvqAQLtr14M9E6fnGaXBXwDrm9wfgsJ5H_WPh8ax3RU5uUl58XpGeFZGj36mqWZ8okVMdCR7Gia0Wpq2Y4uRnM9SG4A53dSxqPix6JZ7-Ka3tiCF3XIpCSjB1klujn3plEOQ/w400-h376/093D607F-DD98-4658-B27F-A8597AF5E67A_1_201_a.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd9mopqH0tiw-4aY52kmWZhu15n9Yc8Ny5xbWveA2PyQTnS5vT0MxBMIUF6EHjpatew4RwLdKnUuF9QXIWR-adIOZmWGQMhXQwsyN2zcsq5Njx0NiRKM4HwQRmgde3HmRUU2omIESrurk9Nt7wuOdQdMwRmSluXPs_8KtUrNWn4PhWR_0Zf_T5acAliA/s1995/3FFA9D60-8EC4-40F2-80A8-F519D9C5DFC1_1_201_a.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1186" data-original-width="1995" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd9mopqH0tiw-4aY52kmWZhu15n9Yc8Ny5xbWveA2PyQTnS5vT0MxBMIUF6EHjpatew4RwLdKnUuF9QXIWR-adIOZmWGQMhXQwsyN2zcsq5Njx0NiRKM4HwQRmgde3HmRUU2omIESrurk9Nt7wuOdQdMwRmSluXPs_8KtUrNWn4PhWR_0Zf_T5acAliA/w400-h238/3FFA9D60-8EC4-40F2-80A8-F519D9C5DFC1_1_201_a.heic" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p><br /></p>Sugarbowl92http://www.blogger.com/profile/05481150245103963310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7575734698934523608.post-1553460568082451082022-07-14T08:21:00.002-05:002022-07-14T08:21:30.194-05:00The High King of Tara<p> A new campaign has been uploaded to the <a href="https://bloodsandsteel.blogspot.com/p/campaigns.html" target="_blank">Campaign</a> page: The High King of Tara.</p><p>Rules, map and extra lists have been added. The Byzantine archers are from a Komnenan Byzantine list I used at a team tournament under FOG V1. They originally numbered only 16 as light foot. When V3 came out, I now needed medium foot to field the list so I painted up 8 more. The SeljukTurk Bow Cavalry started off as light horse bow under V1. Under V3, every Saracen list from the Crusades list have to have multiple battle groups of Bow Cavalry and the 16 stands of light horse bow just would not work so more had to be recruited. All figures pictured are OG15s BTW.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwLTR4_d8gZMqC7Wrd1f1eQPR-YYmEY8EcD-u25uAHkiofUpHMHdlcDqhGmkcx7e__5YTn0O9Z9pnDsf1h-n8_9FrH-PlttP_7fvunKJh-tQgIB2wHQvyVeFkXYR8j18rcQ_SqjA_elezUyin4t7NZNxLXD-F5mkA0rrCVJgtyuBZCntbVUzSJqAFfMA/s2728/2CA065A5-0B9F-4120-871B-78ED9E9C52D3_1_201_a.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="833" data-original-width="2728" height="167" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwLTR4_d8gZMqC7Wrd1f1eQPR-YYmEY8EcD-u25uAHkiofUpHMHdlcDqhGmkcx7e__5YTn0O9Z9pnDsf1h-n8_9FrH-PlttP_7fvunKJh-tQgIB2wHQvyVeFkXYR8j18rcQ_SqjA_elezUyin4t7NZNxLXD-F5mkA0rrCVJgtyuBZCntbVUzSJqAFfMA/w546-h167/2CA065A5-0B9F-4120-871B-78ED9E9C52D3_1_201_a.heic" width="546" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Seljuk Turk Bow Cavalry - I painted 8 of these and the others I picked up off a gentleman from France off Bay. The Nile will be very important in the campaign as movement by water will be very important as it was historically with very few roads/tracks. The campaign rules (when they are ever finished) will fill in the gaps on how this will work.

This was the first time I have tried a remote game so there are few pictures (and no action shots).</p><p>The Irish mercenary Earl Thomas Worden has descended upon the hinterlands of the Hansa with Queen Margaret of Denmark's Swedish levies to try and take the titular capital of the Hansa League, Lubeck. In true monied fashion, the merchants of the League have secured the services of the wandering Flemish mercenary, Anders Notger and his Flemish spearmen to defend Lubeck. Just south of the city on the banks of the River Trave, the two armies meet...</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1wy_pFxNEtUUP9xMvKYB943zlhYtNQD_nKnjegVKHeGEAM-iVqJI_KmKyP3SYyWiKECD4e6LFd0UEwDPoMobGdup1g7nqXkW_97D9SMkSgzhJJGdZOMUvk-Cv-EIfhxpKhgxhwDjL3PjI/s2726/71D4D746-49FC-48F9-A5C0-AD967343B118_1_201_a.heic" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1153" data-original-width="2726" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1wy_pFxNEtUUP9xMvKYB943zlhYtNQD_nKnjegVKHeGEAM-iVqJI_KmKyP3SYyWiKECD4e6LFd0UEwDPoMobGdup1g7nqXkW_97D9SMkSgzhJJGdZOMUvk-Cv-EIfhxpKhgxhwDjL3PjI/w578-h244/71D4D746-49FC-48F9-A5C0-AD967343B118_1_201_a.heic" width="578" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Later Low Country Army of Anders Notger</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPN1PIF6PMcCI6LRoJQnf43ckZUhVMnUdA4p90-okrzEDZMAYbKep4SzdBYu2t5KBexPlvLhzWp6ubjfm929UECNG_090EbHmxxecqQttCNzBkzjSAsahA1aOYkOGsr417ILjjRbLANcrb/s2775/1FDE901F-84B5-41C2-9214-5A9692E57B09_1_201_a.heic" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1133" data-original-width="2775" height="235" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPN1PIF6PMcCI6LRoJQnf43ckZUhVMnUdA4p90-okrzEDZMAYbKep4SzdBYu2t5KBexPlvLhzWp6ubjfm929UECNG_090EbHmxxecqQttCNzBkzjSAsahA1aOYkOGsr417ILjjRbLANcrb/w574-h235/1FDE901F-84B5-41C2-9214-5A9692E57B09_1_201_a.heic" width="574" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Med. The Flemish took the enclosed field compulsory and the Swedes took the village. The Swedes also took a river. The Flemish took a gully and an open field. The river ended up being uneven (must be a dry summer). Both camps were unfortified and the Swedes placed the 4 stands of field fortifications in front of their camp which was placed beside the river. </p><p>The Swedes moved first. The two Levy battlegroups together moved straight forward stopping just outside of 5" of the Flemish spear line. The lone Levy BG behind the enclosed field moved to just short of the enclosed field. The knights moved forward 4" with a slight wheel. There was no shooting as the only Swedish BGs in range had double moved. The Flemish leader moved to the lone 8 BG of spear and the Swedish leader moved to the lone Levy BG in the Joint Action Phase.</p><p>In the Flemish 1st turn, the two spear BGs together did not move. The lone spear BG moved forward 4" and the knights wheeled forward 4" angling towards the gap between the enclosed field and the river. The range was long for shooting and the Swedish crossbows were ineffective. The Swedish leader moved into the enclosed field so that he could join his knights in the following turn. The Flemish leader moved to his own knights.</p><p>In the Swedish 2nd turn, the two Levy BGs moved as a group to 4" of the Flemish spear line. The Swedish knights moved up 4" placing them at the corner of the enclosed field. The Swedish crossbow fire against the 10 stand BG of spear was ineffective and not enough shots were available against the other spear BG. In the joint action phase, the Swedish leader moved to the Swedish knights.</p><p>In the Flemish 2nd turn, the Flemish knights passed a CMT not to charge. The Flemish spear line held position but the 8 stand BG of spear between the 10 stand BG and the village expanded two stands. The Flemish knights passed a CMT and expanded 2 files. In the shooting phase, the Swedish missile fire continued to be ineffective.</p><p>In the Swedish 3rd turn, the Swedish knights charged. In impact, the Flemish leader decided to fight in the line and the Swedish leader did so as well. The Flemish knights scored 2 hits to 6, lost a base to the death roll and then disrupted. Both leaders survived their rolls. The two Swedish Levy BGs moved foward to 3" of the Flemish spear line. In the shooting phase, more futile crossbow fire ensued. In the melee phase, The Flemish knights again rolled poorly and lost. They last a stand to the death roll and broke. The spear BG disrupted for seeing friends break. The Flemish knights were caught in the pursuit and lost another base. The Flemish leader survived the pursuit. In joint action, the Flemish leader moved to the spear BG by the field. The Flemish knights routed off the table. The Swedish knights pursued to the table edge.</p><p>In the Flemish 3rd turn, the Flemish held steady along the line. The Swedish crossbow fire was for naught and in the Joint Action Phase, the disrupted Flemish Spear BG by the enclosed field rallied to steady.</p><p>In the Swedish 4th turn, no charges were made. The lone Swedish Levy BG by the enclosed field moved 2" into the enclosed field. The Swedish knights wheeled 4" towards the Flemish camp. Shooting continued to be ineffective. The Flemish general moved to the 8 stand BG of spear by the village in the Joint Action Phase.</p><p>In the Flemish 4th turn, the 10 stand spear BG charged. The 8 stand spear BG opted not to charge but failed the CMT even with the general attached and charged anyway. The two right hand stands trundled into the village severely disordering. In impact, the 10 stand BG of Flemish spear took 11 hits and lost. The 8 stand BG won (the general was fighting again). The Flemish 10 stand BG lost 2 stands but passed cohesion. The two Swedish Levy BGs suffered no ill effects. As there was no shooting, the turn moved into melee. This is where things started getting blurry. This melee continued back and forth with the Swedes losing 1 stand of Pole Arm troops facing the 10 stand BG of Flemish Spear but never losing cohesion. The other 6 stand BG of Swedish Levy lost combat multiple times but never lost a stand to hits or failed a cohesion test. The 10 stand BG of Flemish eventually lost a base to hits and dropped to fragmented. The Swedish knights, eventually overran the Flemish camp breaking the Flemish army. </p><p>All told the game took less than 1.5 hours (closer 1.25). </p><p>I made several questionable decisions in tactics that had a significant effect, one being expanding the average knights. </p><p>I also made a glaring rule error where the village is concerned. The Flemish spear BG should not have charged without orders as the village is severely disordering terrain to heavy foot. It is what you get for never playing with villages.</p><p>Otherwise, it was fun to get to try out FOG 300 against someone new. Thanks to Tommy Worden of Ireland for trying out FOG 300. Maybe next time I will be able to get pictures of the game in progress.</p><p><br /></p>Sugarbowl92http://www.blogger.com/profile/05481150245103963310noreply@blogger.com0
