69 AD was a busy year for the Romans. Could this be an interesting scenario for a campaign?
I have plenty of Early Germans, Gallic types, Numidains, Parthian/Armenian types and the makings of an Early Imperial Romans army. The Romans are all Corvis Belli metal figures while everything else is a mix of Old Glory15s, Forged in Battle and some odd Essex figures.
Reading up on the rise of Islam and the fall of the Sassanid Empire as I work on the Sunset of the Sassanids campaign. Found two books of interest pictured below. Have not found much about about either author and just got the books so I am not sure how good they will be. Both are available on Amazon.
Been working on the latest update for the Nostri Maris Sanquis campaign scenario. This is a post death of Caesar and Pompey the Great campaign circa 49 BC. I have updated the campaign rules to include some adjustments learned from other scenarios and the army lists to FOG 3.2a. This scenario adjusts the minimum army size to 325 points but still uses the FOG 300 framework for small battles. The campaign uses the map from Columbia Games "Juleus Caesar." I am working on a battle group of Illyrian foot and they might be finished before the end of the year.

| The foot battle group in the front will serve as Later Lombard Italian Militia/Papal State Town Militia Spearmen-Feudal Spearmen/Italo-Norman Spearmen or Early Crusader Protected Spearmen. This battle group contains a mix of figures from various Old Glory 15s, Baueda, Khurasan and Two Dragon Dark Ages/Viking/ Normal ranges (Although the monk in the front left may be Peter Pig). Most were painted by me with a few off Ebay and the flea market at Nashcon 2024. The mounted in the back are all from Old Glory 15s and painted by me. Most are from the various OG15 Norman/1st Crusades selections with one or two from Dark Age packs. |
Still painting along...slowly. Two battlegroups of archers from the lead pile: one battle group of Babylon Levy archers for the Broken Rays of the Sun Campaign setting and one battle of group of generic archers for the Normans in the Nunnery Campaign.

| The left hand group are the Babylonian Levy Archers from a pack of Old Glory 15s of the same name. There are three other figures as the pack of 24 came out to 21: one is an OG 15s figure, one is Forged in Battle and one is an old Corvus Belli. I painted all of the Babylonians. The right hand battle group of generic western archers is a mixture of OG 15s, Essex, Baueda and some I can't identify. Some of these I picked up off Ebay and the flea market at Nashcon last year but most I painted myself. These can be used for just about anything Early Medieval through the 1st Crusade. |
FOG has been updated to version 3.2. The FOG Resources page has been renamed and the updated versions have been added to the page.
Another group of reinforcements specifically for the Normans in the Nunnery campaign scenario but the Byzantines can also be used for the Red Boots of Byzantium and A War Like No Other campaign scenarios. All campaign scenarios can be accessed through the Ancients/Medievals Campaign Page to the right.

Might be the only ones I get painted this month but reinforcements that can be used for both my Normans in Nunnery and The Red Boots of Byzantium campaigns (although they could also work as Byzantines for the A War Like No Other crusades campaign too) are now on the blog: two battle groups of 8 stands of Byzantine Spearmen that can work for late Nikephorian and Komnenan Byzantines plus one battle group of 8 stands of Byzantine Archers that will also fit the same era.
All figures are Old Glory 15s.

I have a battle group of western spearmen and one of western archers from the same time period as these that I plan to add at some point (hopefully by the end of the summer). A battle group of Lombard/Communal Italian lancers plus a command stand or two may also join the blog.
Been working on the Normans in the Nunnery Campaign scenario a bit and added a revised map.
Also working on revising the campaign rules and painting some additional Byzantines to field a Nikephorian faction. Hopefully will have some new additions ready in the next few weeks.
Managed to finally finish a battle group of Late Roman Auxiliary that had been languishing in the near finished box for a bit thanks to a renewed interest in the last 70 years of the West Roman Empire. These figures are all Essex 15mm miniatures. A handfuls were picked up eons ago from Hinds Limited out of the UK when FOG first came out. Unfortunately, the lighting was not the best.
The figure on the end of the back rank and 2nd from the end front rank are my favorite pose of these but unfortunately they are no longer available. They have been replaced with a similar pose that comes with a separate shield. While nice and allowing for a bit more variation with the positioning of the shield, it just does not seem as good as the original.
Hopefully, there will be a few more figures painted in the months to come.
Keeping focus when no gaming is actually occurring is always a challenge. As such I have drifted back to ancients after dabbling in ACW for a minute or two and then revisiting AK47 for about half a minute.
Consequently, I have updated and uploaded the campaign rules for From the Indus to the Ganges 320 BC. The Campaign page can be found here.
I am working again on a scratch build of two bullock carts for the Republican Indians and maybe I'll have them finished by Christmas 🤦 I'll post pictures when they are done.
I have added a new page to the blog for ACW campaigns I have run/designed in the past.
The first bit on that page covers work on a campaign of the entire war I ran back in 2006.
More to come as time (i.e., work) allows.
The focus of the blog has changed. Field of Glory gaming in the USA is essentially dead and until a viable ancient rules comes along that has the right feel I will be adventuring along different paths.
Consequently, other gaming periods might pop up from time time and at my whim.
I am currently revisiting an ACW campaign I ran back in 2006 using GDW's a House Divided. The late Allen Thompson and I ran it well into 1862 and had multiple interesting battles using the original Fire & Fury Brigade rules.
As I go through the old campaigns rules and make some updates, I expect it will show up here on the blog so stay tuned for further adventures amidst the Blood, the Sand and the Steel.
I am continuing to add to the Selected References page for the "A Boy's Oath" scenario. I have begun going through past Slingshot issues and have added the relevant articles through the 1st 100 issues. I will add more as time permits.
