Blog Reorganization

 In the coming months I am going to reorganize the Blog.  All of the campaigns will still have their own page but their pages will be accessed through a single Campaign Page.  The individual campaign pages will not be visible in the list to the right but rest assured I will NOT be deleting any of the content.  Stay tuned for more developments.

In the meantime, here are a few random pictures from Round 5 of Bayou Wars 29ish's Hybrid FOG/ADLG Ancients Tournament  in which my Parthian horde took on Dan Henderson and his Southern Han Army in FOG v3.  Gino Agnelly and Hab Sietze were on the next table playing ADLG v3.

April Update

 It has been quiet in the land of Blood, Sand and Steel but not for lack of desire.  Time has been at a premium with work and the boy.  Work continues in my spare time on several projects including three separate campaigns.  Hopefully, things will slow down some when summer arrives and I can get back to posting.  

The Birmingham Bunnies last communicated they planned on running Brewer-Sailors as a 800 point FOG Tournament at the end of April/Early May.  Unfortunately, the city of Birmingham, Alabama extended the city-wide mask mandate into May which creates issues for one of the venues the Bunnies hoped to use.  I have offered up Casa de Anders as an alternate but no news as of yet.

The Bayou Wars Ancients Tournament will be an Open tournament.  I will accommodate both ADLG V3 and FOG V3.  So what does that mean?  If you prefer FOG, send me a list by the deadline and I will match you up with as many FOG opponents as possible.  If you prefer ADLG, I will do the same.  After the uproar created by even mentioning FOG as an alternative at Bayou Wars, one of the ADLG adherents has already bowed out.  Below are the details I posted in several places with information about the Bayou Wars Tournament.

Bayou Wars will be an ADLGish open ancients tournament using V3 rules. However, anyone who would prefer to play FOG v3 can submit a FOG list and I will match you up with as many opponents as possible. The general rules are as follows:

Bayou Wars 29ish will host an Open Ancients Tournament on June 11-13, 2021, with 1 round Friday, 3 rounds Saturday and 1 round Sunday.

Tournament Rules and Format

This will be an Open Ancients Tournament and lists may not have more than 200 points for ADLG or 800 points FOG V3. 

Rules:
ADLG V3 rule book and current ADLG rule interpretations will be used/FOG V3 rule book and current FOG rule interpretations will be used.

All judge's rulings are final.

Referee will be Christopher Anders. Send lists and questions to shadypage@att.net. Lists will be due by June 4, 2021. Late lists give opponent choice of terrain before initiative is rolled.

Format will be the same regardless of rules played.
Five rounds. 2.5 hours with 1d6 minutes of random time per round. When time is called, players will finish the CURRENT phase.
Round 1 – Friday at 6:30 PM
Round 2 – Saturday at 8 AM
Round 3 – Saturday at 11 AM
Round 4 – Saturday at 3 PM
Round 5 – Sunday at 8AM

We will use the French 100 point scoring system.

Venue is D'Iberville Civic Center, 10395 Automall Parkway, D'Iberville, Mississippi 39540 

Convention fee is $40 USD for the weekend but there may be a reduced Tournament rate at the door. Tell them you are playing in the Ancients Tournament. $5 USD fee for the Tournament paid to referee at tournament. 

Trophies for 1st-3rd place will be provided (Maybe).

UPDATE - Henry Brewer-Gus Sailors Memorial Ancients Tournament 2021

Due to city of Birmingham Mask Mandate and projected limitations on capacity, this year's Brewer-Sailors Ancients Tournament is postponed.  The hope is to hold it in July.  Stay tuned for more information.

The Birmingham Bunnies (of Birmingham, AL) have announced the Henry Brewer-Gus Sailors Memorial Ancients Tournament will return in 2021 and will be an 800 point Field of Glory Open Tournament.  The plan is to hold the event in late April/early May.  Vince Solfronk will referee and is working on a venue.  Details will be posted as soon as things are finalized.

Cold Iron VI Final Results

 Cold Iron VI Average Joe is in the books.

With three players unable to return for Sunday, we decided to call it a day after 3 on Saturday.

Chilled Iron 2020 Field of Glory Tournament Results

 Unfortunately, we only had 5 qualifying players at the Chilled Iron FOG Tournament this weekend.  As such, we only played three rounds instead of the 4 scheduled but all seemed to enjoy themselves and no one left brain dead.

Final Results

Gino Agnelly, Lee Cleveland and I (Christopher Anders - the referee) only played two rounds.  Per Gulf Coast Championship Guidelines the referee is not eligible to win the tournament and, where possible, always plays the lowest ranked player.  In this case, it was not possible as by points, Joey should have played Willard in Round 2 so I played Joey to keep Lee from having to play Joey (they play each other all of the time).  Lee had to leave after Round 2 anyway and Gino had to look for some Blue Boy paintings (don't ask, it really doesn't make sense anyway) so he sat out Round 2.  It worked out just fine or so everyone said at the end.

Chilled Iron Field of Glory Open Tournament - November 14-15, 2020

 To fill the gap with the cancellation of Bayou Wars 28, the Chilled Iron Field of Glory Tournament will be held in Fultondale, AL, November 14-15, 2020, in the Casa De Anders Basement.

Tournament Rules and Format

• Table size will be 4x6.
• This will be a 4 round tournament.  Each round will be 3 hours plus 1d6 of random time. When time is called, players will finish the current phase.
• Round 1 will start at 9 AM on Nov 14 or shortly thereafter
• V3 rules and current FAQ from BHGS website will be used.
• We will use the 100 point ADLG scoring method for round by round results.
• 1 list, 800 points.
• This will be an open tournament.
• Christopher Anders will referee. Lists are due to shadypage@att.net no later than November 7. Late lists give your opponent choice of terrain before initiative is rolled.
• There is no tournament fee for Chilled Iron.

There are multiple hotels at the Fultondale-Walker's Chapel Road exit to chose from and if flying in a shuttle from the airport can be arranged with notice.

HUBCON 2020 Cancelled

 Just heard from Tim Broome tonight that HUBCON 2020 has been cancelled.

The Field of Glory Average Joe Tournament has been moved to Cold Iron VI on February 27-28, 2021.  See the tournament page to the right for full details.

Blog Update

The campaign rules and new lists for the Lord of the Four Corners campaign have now been uploaded to the campaign page.  These are living documents so are subject to change as things need to be amended.  I have also updated the campaign map to the current draft.  These can be found on the Lord of the Four Corners Index page.

The GCC Archives have been updated with a couple more issues of the Gulf Coast Monthly added plus more of the tournament results.  Check out the archives here.

Cold Iron V is a Wrap

We only had 4 players today for Cold Iron V due to a multitude of reasons but we had a blast.  Three rounds were played today with only one ending in a draw.  Ended up doing a round robin so everyone played everyone.

1st Place with 2 wins and a draw, playing Medieval Scandinavian and 239 points:  Scott Allen

2nd Place with 2 win and a loss, playing Alexandrian Macedonian and 202 points:  Brett Stiefel 

3rd Place with 1 win and 2 losses, playing Ottoman Turks with 131 points:  Joey Miller

With the absolute worst dice ever, 2 losses and a draw playing Anglo-Irish and 71 points:  Vince Solfronk (we gave him new dice).

It was great to see everyone and I hope everyone stays healthy in the coming days.  Can't wait to do something like this again.

Cold Iron V Field of Glory Tournament

The Cold Iron Field of Glory Tournament returns for its 5th installment March 14th & 15th, 2020.  The tournament will be in the Birmingham, Alabama area.  Venue has yet to be determined.  We have the possibility of having guests from across the pond coming to join us for this event so do not miss out.

Initial tournament information:

1. Two day event.  3 rounds on Saturday, March 14 & 1 on Sunday, March 15.
2. One list, open event.  Any list from any 3rd edition army book.  800 points.
3. Each round will be 3 hours plus 1d6 minutes of random time.  When time is called, players will finish the current phase.
4. We will use the 100 point French Scoring method.
5. Lists are due to Christopher Anders at shadypage@att.net no later than midnight, March 7.  Late lists give the opponent automatic selection of terrain from either armies list before initiative is determined.
6. Entry fee for the tournament will be around $30.  Prepayment via PayPal will be available prior to the event.  Stay tuned for details.
7. Once the venue has been finalized, a list of hotels in the area will be provided.
8. Airport pick-up may be possible with advanced notice.

FOG 3.0 to return to HUBCON in 2019

As of yesterday, plans are in the works for a FOG 3.0 tournament at HUBCON September 8 & 9 in Hattiesburg, MS.  This will be an Average Joe tournament of 4 rounds at 800 points.  All troops must be average quality and no Inspired Generals will be allowed.  I will post more information in the coming months including a list of armies that will be allowed.  Look forward to seeing everyone at HUBCON.

Cold Iron IV is now in the books and by all accounts everyone in attendance had a blast and have asked for me to run it again.

Cold Iron IV: The Return of FOG Field of Glory Tournament—February 9-10, 2019

Cold Iron IV will be held just north of Birmingham, AL, Feb 9-10, 2019.   The venue for Cold Iron IV will be the Microtel Hotel in Gardendale.

Tournament Format and Rules:
* Rules will be Field of Glory V3
* 1 list 800 points from any of the three new FOG V3 Army Books.
* This will be a four round tournament:  3 rounds on Saturday and one Sunday Morning.
* Each round will be 3 hours plus 1d6 of random time.
* Round 1 - Saturday, 9:00 AM
* Round 2 - 1:15PM
* Round 3 - 4:30 PM
* Round 4 - Sunday, 9:00 AM
* Lists will be due to Christopher Anders at shadypage@att.net by midnight January 31, 2019.
* Late lists will give opponent choice of terrain type prior to initiative roll.
* 1st tie-break will be head to head.  2nd tie-break will be count back. 3rd tie-break will be generals killed/camps sacked.
* Scoring will use the ADLG 100 point method.
* When time is called, players will finish the phase.
* Tournament fee is $30.

The address of the hotel is Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham, 850 Odum Road, Gardendale, AL  35071.  Current rate are a low as $76 through Hotels.com.  There is also a Best Western at this exit off I-65 with a La Quinta Inn, Holiday Inn, Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn and a Comfort Inn at the Fultondale exit just down the road.
