FOG 3.0 at Bayou Wars

Rich Olier trotted out Classical Indians to face off against my Parthians in a semi-historical fight.  Unfortunately, my Parthian dice were their typical abysmal selves against Rich and managed to lose pretty much every combat possible.  Here are some pictures of the early part of the game.  Enjoy.

New Campaign Setting in the Works

I have started work on a new campaign setting for Field of Glory and hope to have the draft rules and map up soon.  This one will focus on the fall of the Parthian Empire and the rise of the House of Sasan.  The campaign will be called "Broken Rays of the Sun."  I took this from images I have seen on a few Parthian coins that show a sunburst either on the crown of the Parthian king or above his head.  Although, most Parthian miniature command sets show a draco for their standard, I have seen a few that also show the sunburst.  Several companies make the sunburst in their figure ranges, most notably in 28mm but Xyston also makes them as part of their Parthian command packs in 18mm, Magister Militum in 10mm & 28mm and Forged in Battle in 15mm.

The campaign will be set around the year 220 AD and allow some of the surrounding enemies of Parthia to make cameos and to serve as allies.  Plus, it will have the added effect of allowing me to get the Peter Pig Camelphracts I have painted on the table.

I have worked up an Arabo-Aramaean list for FOG 3 that will cover Emessa, Edessa, Hatra and Nabataea plus a reworking of the allied lists to cover Elymais and Atropatene.  Hopefully, this will generate some interesting battles this summer.

Until next time...

FOG 300 E. Successor vs Classical Indian c. 321 BC

No time for a formal AAR this week but it was still good to push some lead on the table.  This time I offer up Early Successors vs Classical Indians circa 321 BC.  Below are the pictures from the game in order.  Maybe next week I will get to do a proper AAR.  enjoy...

Painting Update

No game this week but I did manage to get some painting completed.  In the foreground, there is  selection of horses painted for a BG of Parthian/Sassanid horse archers.  In the background, more Pre-Islamic Arab archers for my Hatra ally as well as more horse archers and Arab lancers.

Peter Pig 15mm Camelphracts - will work for the cornerstone of a Hatra 300 army and another BG for my Parthians.

Khurasan Arab Light Lancers for my Pre-Islamic Arabians/Arab Conquest.

Two shots of Xyston Camel Train for my Parthians.  This is a 40x80mm base and will work for a FOG 300 army and along with two other bases for a full size FOG camp.  It will also work for that other rule set that is played down here in the south.

FOG 3.0 in the Man Cave

Finally able to get game in this weekend - Willard Moore traveled down from Huntsville with his Daylami Horde to take on my Rus.  The Rus have not faired well under any of the three versions of FOG and today was to prove no different.

Will deployed with only 10 BGs including a BG of superior elephants.  The Rus showed up with 11 BGs three of which were lights.

The Rus won the initiative and chose agriculture.  Will tried to clutter the battlefield by I picked up two his choices by rolling a 6.  Most of the remaining terrain ended up on the edges anyway so we fought in the middle.

Early on things were working for the Rus as the elephants were seen off by one of the veteran Rus Spear units and one of the average Ghilman was driven off by an average spear BG on the opposite end.

Once the two main lines joined in melee things quickly went askew as the Daylami impact foot won just about every impact and the ones they did not win, they rolled out of danger.  One Daylami sub general bit the dust but none of the Daylami BGs cared.  In just under 2 hours, the Rus army was fleeing from the field with the Daylami down only 5 attrition points.

Here are some pictures of the action. Unfortunately, no record survives of the final minutes of the slaughter.  Until next time...

Round 2 Match-Ups

Christopher Anders with Early Scots vs Brett Stiefel and his Principate Romans - Brett's Roman beat the Scots back into the Stone Age
